ProcrasTINAtion
See? It was destined for me to be a person that puts things off until the very last minute. I did it in high school, in college, at work, and now in my writing.
Not all the time, mind you, but more often than I should.
For example. I have known about the Brava Contest since before it started. I knew what I wanted to write about, so I knew I had plenty of time, and then waited and waited. My niece was going to be with us for three weeks this summer, but I knew I could get it done while she was here. Nope, didn’t get it done. Didn’t even try. So then she left, and I tried Only to find that I couldn’t write it. The idea I had just fizzled and wouldn’t go anywhere. Every time I tried to force words, it came out crappy. Racked my brains and decided, oh, I have another idea. Same thing happened with that one.
Then my mom came to visit for two weeks. She knew I had to work. That wasn’t the issue. But I have realized writing nookie/mushy/romance just doesn’t work when your mother is smoking cigarettes across the table from you so you can’t breathe in your own house, and giving you the eye, since she knows you write porn and she doesn’t like it.
So I thought – oooh, wait, I have something that will be perfect. I will fix that up a little. Guess what? Yup, same issue. Just didn’t work.
So, by now I was less than two weeks from the deadline and nothing in hand and school starting again, I have been trying to think of a new idea.
Nothing came to me. Until a friend suggested something totally different. So I tried it and I loved it. Although I had to cut down the 1000 words to 750.
So, I have it done and ready, and it will be submitted today.
Along with my attempt at a Caveman that I just gave my Crit partner THURSDAY to edit. (Yes, it is also due today)
How long have I known about these things? At least 6 months. Did I do anything for them? No. What did I do? I procrasTINAted. Yup. That’s me. ProcrasTINAtor Bendoni.

Heroes in our lives
Heroes in romance novels are wonderful, but who do you know that's a hero?
My son is in the Army, so I think he's a hero. Being in the military is tough on the families. Right after Christmas, Brandon will be sent overseas and it makes me sick to think about it.
How many more men and women have to die for a country that still can't manage their police and military forces?
Anyway, the point of this blog is to remind you to tell the heroes in your lives how much you love them.

Things that make me write
To prevent me from not writing I had a look at my wip list. It turned out I had a number of wips-in-waiting and some new ones that just popped out of nowhere. So I jumped between them, writing synopses here, brainstorming plots there, day dreaming scenes as I sorted out my cupboards. I added a thread to my forum at Coffeetime Romance so that I could write my word count in yet another place, LOL
I ended up writing and subbing a short story for an anthology in four days and I'm now enjoying my current wip Weaving Words. Well, I just discovered my baddy is based on Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse now (I wish my subconscious would warn me about these things!) so that should be fun.
I'm over my rejection and that story is out in the world again.
So... how do you find your focus when you hit a set back?
Oh and this I have to share. My new cover for 7% and Rising out with Samhain 27 November 2007. I love it.

Ask Ash
Hi Everyone!
My new "advice" column Ask Ash is live at the Night Whispers Authors blog! Every Saturday I answer "dilemmas" with creative yet practical ideas your momma would never give you.
I give advice based on what the asker really wants and not necessarily on the politically correct thing to do. For instance: Want to get the neighborhood kids out of your yard while having them think you're the coolest people ever? Give out six-packs for Halloween! Their parents won't let them near you again!
I'd love to hear your questions! You can even begin with... "I have this friend who..." And just to keep it perfectly anonymous to the public, I opened a new email addy to be used for only this purpose. Ask anything you want. Sign your name any way you like. Just Ask Ash! Every Saturday I'll publish the best from the mailbag that week!
Send letters to:

(Disclaimer: This column is merely for the purpose of entertainment and should never be misconstrued as real advice for real problems or in any way taken seriously.)
